Crime drama TV series “The Blacklist” season 3 episode 18 came as a shock to many fans after it featured the death of the lead actress, Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone). Episode 19 titled “Cape May” showed Raymond “Red” Reddington’s (James Spader) grieving over Liz’ tragic death and in episode 20, fans will see the taskforce gathering together for the funeral, although fans still believe that Liz is only faking her death.Across the seasons, Liz has faked her death a number of times, sparking hope from fans that Liz did not die in episode 18. The casket is seen to be closed, offering some optimism that this is just one act from Liz again. Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix) is seen giving an emotional speech in one of these photos, while another show Harold, Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) and Aram Mojtabai (Amir Arison) carry Liz’s coffin. “Blacklist” has been known for killing its main characters but this strategy has become dubious to some viewers.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Spader replied when asked if Liz is really dead, “I think it’s most prudent not only as just myself and what I know or don’t know for that, but also in terms of the character of Reddington: Elizabeth Keen is dead.” He also added that with Liz gone, Red’s relationship with the team becomes uncertain. The actor shared, “And for the moment, it’s almost reflexive for him to live his life just one foot in front of the other and to take his life on a daily basis. And I don’t mean not looking forward or looking ahead, he’s always looking ahead, but I mean immediately — immediately upon her death I think he’s lost.”
Many are expecting that Tom and Liz will reunite in a spin-off series by NBC although there has been no confirmation yet from the network.
“The Blacklist” season 3 episode 20 titled “The Artax Network” will air on April 28 at 9 p.m. EDT on NBC.
