Sources have confirmed that the cast and crew have just recently wrapped up filming for Block 1. Celeb Dirty Laundry recently claimed that Season 4 will just have three episodes. “Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and terror and tragedy are looming,” showrunner Steven Moffat said. “This is the story we’ve been telling from the beginning and it’s about to reach its climax.”
No official release date has been set as of writing, but previous reports have already pegged the new season to premiere in early 2017. However, Moffat is allegedly hopeful to have the new season air on BBC in December 2016.
Moffat also teased about a major cliffhanger that “will leave viewers desperate for Season 5.” This might have something to do with Moriarty’s return as some “Sherlock” Season 4 spoilers have already suggested. Moffatt did dismiss rumours about Sherlock’s arch nemesis’ return, but many believe that Moriarty will return as a zombie, Parent Herald noted.
Previous reports have sent the internet into a frenzy when Moriarty had an unexpected sighting in a Ukraine subway. Fans thought of it as a promo for the upcoming run, but authorities claimed that the sighting was due to a hack.
“The hack appears to directly reference the series 3 finale, in which Sherlock is called back from his highly dangerous mission in Eastern Europe by the supposedly deceased Moriarty popping up on every screen in central London, repeating the ominous phrase, Did you miss me?’” The Independent previously reported.
” A major Ukrainian news network reports that the images were indeed the work of hackers, with Kyiv Metro releasing a statement that the incident is currently under investigation,” the site added.
