If you’re anything like us over here at Celebinf, then you know how heartbreaking it was to watch the series finale of The Vampire Diaries last week. After it was announced this summer that the show would wrap after eight seasons, the very last episode of the fan favorite show aired last Friday, March 10. Before the actual episode aired, the two-hour long event began with a special called The Vampire Diaries: Forever Yours, in which viewers got to see interviews from both current and OG cast members. While the ending of the episode was quite touching, it was extremely sad to see the widely praised The CW show go after first airing way back in 2009. That’s quite the long run, if you ask us.

But what if we told you it’s wasn’t completely over? Yep, that’s right. There could possibly be another spin-off, and there is a very legitimate reason to think so.

After it all went down in the finale, viewers got to see what happens next for a few of the main characters. SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE SERIES FINALE!

In the episode, Candice King‘s character Caroline had parted ways with her now-human husband Stefan – AKA Paul Wesley‘s character – after he sacrificed himself in order to make sure the ultimate villain we all loved to hate Katherine was gone forever. But what happens to Caroline after? Well, she made the decision to start a supernatural boarding school with Alaric, the dad of her twin girls – played by Matthew Davis.

So here’s the deal with the spin-off speculation. Caroline opened up a $3 million donation she got in support of her new endeavor, only to realize it was from the one and only Klaus. His character is now a main character in TVD spin-off, The Originals as you already know, and the note he wrote to her ended with the phrase, “However long it takes” – which is a nod to Season 4 when Klaus told Caroline he’d always love her. Viewers then heard Alaric say, “But that’s the beginning of another story.” That HAS to mean something, right?!

So will Caroline join The Originals – or could a whole new spin-off be in store? Creator of the show Julie Plec confirmed that another series is a real possibility.

“It’s so funny, literally every single person is asking me that question,” she said in an interview. “I figured everybody would be like, ‘For god’s sakes, put it to bed!’ Yes, of course, I have laid a groundwork in the [TVD series] finale itself for future expansion of the universe.”

According to Julie, you won’t be seeing Caroline in the upcoming season of The Originals – but it could happen eventually.

“Obviously our timelines did not match up, so Caroline and Klaus are not coming face-to-face in this season. That being said, we do have crossover elements in the upcoming season of The Originals that’s about to start airing, and it all brings it back to what I see as a future for either The Originals or another piece of the franchise to launch off of the end of The Originals. So I look forward to being able to play around in that sandbox and see if I can make something of it,” she said in another recent interview.

Oh how we’d love another series! Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
