NCIS Remains the No. 1 Drama in the World

With more than 47 million viewers worldwide, NCIS, starring Mark Harmon as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, ranks as the most-watched drama worldwide, according to Eurodata TV Worldwide. That is in addition to its eight-year run as the No. 1 drama in the U.S.

In addition, the CBS drama received the prestigious 12th International Television Audience Award for a Drama TV Series at the 57th Monte-Carlo Television Festival. NCIS has won the award three out of the last four years.

The series returns for its 15th season on Tuesday, Sept. 26 under the auspices of showrunners Frank Cardea & George Schenck, who replaced Gary Glasberg following his untimely death last year, and it will be business as usual with the exception of Jennifer Esposito‘s exit from the team as Special Agent Alex Quinn after only one season on NCIS.

In an earlier interview, Schenck told Parade.com, “The formula is to, hopefully, tell a good mystery, a good story, in which our characters are always themselves. We always say when you’re on a stakeout, the two people that are in the car, the banter between them, the relationships, those things are always going on, so we get to know our characters as they do what they do.”

The annual International Audience Award is presented jointly by the Monte-Carlo Television Festival and Eurodata TV Worldwide. It rewards programs that delivered the highest ratings in 2016 worldwide across five continents, in three categories: Drama TV Series, Comedy TV Series and Telenovelas/Soap Operas.
